Chanse ("we", "us") is an Australian career platform operated from Melbourne, Victoria. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and we extend the same protections to every user, wherever they are.
Chanse uses large language models to run specific features: structuring and reviewing resumés, generating cover letters, shaping job posts from plain words, running AI interviews, and scoring. When you use one of these features, the relevant text (for example, your resumé or an interview answer) is sent to a third-party AI model provider strictly to produce that result. We send only what the feature needs, we never sell this content, and we configure providers not to retain or train on it where such controls are offered. AI outputs (reviews, scores, suggested pay ranges) are indicative and can be imperfect. They are decision support for humans, never an unreviewable automated decision about you.
Voice calls, video calls and screen shares are encrypted in transit by the WebRTC standard (DTLS-SRTP) and are carried by our real-time calls provider (LiveKit Cloud), which connects the two of you. The stream passes through that provider rather than travelling device to device, so we do not describe it as end-to-end encrypted. We do not record calls, and no call media is kept once a call ends. Like our other overseas processors, this can involve processing outside Australia.
Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest. Attachments live in private storage that only the two people in a conversation can access, through links that expire within an hour. Removing a message you sent also deletes its stored file.
Your account data and content are stored with our cloud infrastructure provider (Supabase), which may host data outside Australia. As APP 8 requires, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas processors handle your information consistently with this policy. A copy of your working data is also cached on your own device so the app stays fast. It is wiped from the device when you sign out.
Live job matches are retrieved through the Adzuna API. Only your search filters (job titles, locations) are sent to fetch listings. Your identity, resumé and score are never shared with Adzuna.
For a third-party job, you can choose to ask Chanse to look for one possible professional contact. The lookup happens only when you press the lookup control, never automatically, in the background or just because a job card is displayed. We first read the public ad text for a named contact through our AI provider. We send the ad text only, never your details. If the ad names no one, we use Hunter for this lookup and disclose only the company name or its public domain. We do not send Hunter your identity, resumé, job description or application content. Hunter and its subprocessors may process this limited request outside Australia, so this involves cross-border processing.
A result is limited to a public professional name, current title, company and one professional-profile URL made available by the provider. It is labelled likely, is advisory only and must be verified before use. The person is not represented as the actual hiring manager or correct contact. We do not return or store their email, phone number, photo, profile text, source list or a guessed address. Chanse does not scrape LinkedIn, is not affiliated with LinkedIn, and does not send or automatically open an outreach message.
The lookup cache is private to your account and that specific job: a match expires after up to 30 days and a no-match after up to 7 days. Results are never shared across users or used to build a general people database. Separately, if you keep the contact in Applications, the selected public contact, associated job snapshot, and your explicit outreach confirmation and timing/status remain in your application record while your account is active, unless deletion is requested or you delete your account. This is not delivery or read tracking, and Chanse does not infer that you sent anything. You, or a person shown in a result, can ask us to access, correct or delete that information by emailing hello@chanse.com.au.
To make our advice honest rather than guesswork, we record what happens to applications on Chanse: whether an employer viewed, shortlisted or responded, and what you tell us yourself (for example “I got an interview”). Here is the rule we hold ourselves to: your individual outcomes are never shown to any other user, ever. What other people may see is a group average only, for example “candidates in groups like yours who added a measurable result to their resumé heard back more often”. We only compute or show a group statistic when the group contains at least 20 similar candidates, so no one can be picked out of it. These insights are advisory and clearly labelled; they inform suggestions, never automated decisions about you.
We use only what the product needs to function: a session token so you stay signed in, and local storage for your drafts and preferences. No third-party advertising trackers.
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your content at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data by emailing hello@chanse.com.au. Verified requests are actioned within 30 days, except where the law requires longer retention.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you can withdraw notification permission at any time in your device settings. If you believe we've mishandled your information, contact us first, and you may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Chanse is built for people starting their careers, but it is not directed at children under 15. If you believe a child's data has been provided to us, contact us and we will delete it.
When this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and flag it in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
